Since Kenton Owsley--the designer and builder of the Cabletub Bass--joined the Mud Bay Stompers, I have the opportunity to hear the Cabletub Bass in numerous situations, from jamming in a room with the folks, to being on stage reinforced with a microphone, to recording in a studio. I must say that it holds its own in all of the above scenarios, providing a solid, loud, and clear bass tone. As for playability, the neck and fingerboard offer the player the opportunity to play precise notes and tones. For the player that wants the look of a washtub bass combined with the musicality and playability of a double bass, the Cabletub Bass is the obvious answer. It's a wonder no one thought of it before!

I first saw the Cabletub Bass at The Grateful Dead show last fall. 

This is the best design for a washtub bass I've seen so far!The ability to have a stand-up bass that literally stands up on its own was what caught my eye, but the sound, playability, price and most of all...weight (I'm over 40 now, so that's important!) is what hooked me.
